Becoming Buddhist: an introduction to taking refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha

May 1, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us in a practical three-week course with Robert Tomic to discover what it means to call oneself ‘Buddhist’. Going beyond the shroud of incense smoke, the glare of light offerings and the routine of ritual, we can discover the meaning of why we do the things we do in order to be Buddhist.

By opening our heart to the true meaning of taking refuge in the Three Jewels, we open the door to accessing all the Buddha’s teachings. Taking refuge is the foundation for all ethical conduct, for all concentration, and for all wisdom.

With sincere understanding and effort, we can receive the protection from the Three Jewels to gain the most meaning from this life. All our efforts become easier, our mind becomes clearer and peaceful, our intentions become more honest and true. Believing in the Three Jewels ultimately means to believe in the full potential that we are capable of, and it is this full potential that we are constantly being encouraged to reach.

Robert Tomic has been practising Tibetan Buddhism for the past twenty three years, wherein he has received teachings and empowerments from all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism, both in Australia and overseas. For nine and half years Robert has taught (introductory level) Tibetan Buddhism to any and all, whether in people’s homes or in a class room setting, who are genuinely interested to learn and apply the unique fundamental steps that can undo the confusion of living in a seemingly contradictory world. Tibetan Buddhism, even in its simplest form, has the ability to change us into pro-active participants who clearly understand how precious this life is and how fulfilling it can become.
