Every moment we breathe in and out is a give and take. Every thought and feeling we are brave enough to let go, to give up is a give and take. We only have so much space in my mind/heart; we let go of the greed (wanting to be happy/rich); hatred (upsetting with what we did not satisfy); ignorance (I have no awareness of what is going on that causes me suffering). Then, and only then … the light of precepts, meditative concentration (awareness/brightness and sharpness of the heart/mind), and wisdom will exist.” Ling will facilitate exploring the giving up to see how it is a giving.

About the Speaker: Ling was born in Laos and is Teow Chew Chinese. After spending three years in a Thailand refugee camp, she flew by Qantas to Australia, her new home.

She was introduced to some wonderful Australian customs at the Villawood Reception Centre, like the tea lady with the trolley with tea and biscuits on it.
She went on to study and work. She spent some 15 years as a pre-school teacher, and also as a horticulture therapist at a mental hospital, and more recently in women's health, teaching cooking and tai chi, as well as working at Northwest disability in Richmond. Health and Happy Heart is the name of Ling's business through which she provides these services. Ling has four grandchildren, two boys and two girls.
Ling has been a Buddhist for more than 45 years. She has participated in Thai, Tibetan, and Chinese Buddhism. The Humanistic Buddhism of Master Hsing Yun, who founded the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order, (Nantien Temple Wollongong) has particularly inspired Ling with its emphasis on practising Buddhism in daily life.
Ling gives talks relate her story about Humanistic Buddhism practise. What difference it has made in her life? And how it has inspired her and gives her enthusiasm. With living in these challenging times of modern crises, how has Humanistic Buddhism helped her navigate these situations?
