Take a breath to stop & see!
Teacher: Myōgen Bhikshu (Online, joining from Taiwan)
Mon 13 July | 7.00-8.30pm AEST
Location: Online (Zoom link below)
Cost: Free
We will explore how "stopping" (calming meditation) and "seeing" (insight meditation) are not two different methods, but one integrated practice. First, breaking each down and then showing their relationship. Words like insight, meditation, and mindfulness are so common we might make many assumptions. Each tradition and practice can also treat these differently. When we practice - what are we mindful of? What are we stopping? What are we developing insights into? What methods are we using to establish peace and joy?
About the Teacher: Myōgen (they/them) is a Buddhist monastic whose practice is guided by the Lotus Sutra and the Mahāyāna tradition. They have a particular focus on the Stages of the Path genre of commentary, Esoteric Buddhism (Mikkyō), and precept practice. Their path begins with the Lotus Sutra teachings that all beings possess the potential for Buddhahood, and that the Dharma is an adaptable path of freedom and creativity able to embrace every circumstance. For them, wherever we are, and whoever we meet, is the field for cultivation and mutual awakening. Through sharing, they hope to encourage others to find confidence in the Dharma, recognizing that every being has the capacity to awaken through joyful and wholehearted practice.
