Ayya Hasappana on dealing with fear: We often pref Ayya Hasappana on dealing with fear: We often prefer to stay in the known even when it's painful, rather than facing the unknown which may terrify us. To practice with fear, you need to stay with the fear and stabilise mind in stillness. Watch the fear and eventually you'll find the fear subsides, bringing with it peace and confidence that you've been able to overcome your fear. Reflect on your goodness and virtue. Make peace with every present moment, even moments of fear, even in the moment of death.

Mindfulness Meditation With Theresa Baw Tuesday 17 Mindfulness Meditation

The good news is that we can train our minds to be happy, and one of the ways is through mindfulness meditation. Or at the very least mindfulness can reduce our suffering. This talk is about mindfulness as a skill which can be practised both: during formal meditation sits, and throughout each day by many mindful moments. Mindfulness meditation has the capacity to short-circuit our habitual tendencies and lessen the automatic proliferation of story-making in our minds. This is an opportunity for you to find out if you can reap these benefits by applying mindfulness in your daily life.

About the Presenter: Theresa Baw is a Buddhist practitioner and mindfulness meditation teacher in the Mahasi Sayadaw tradition. She teaches mindfulness as a skill which can be practised both through formal meditation sits and throughout each day by many mindful moments.

Led by Tina Ng
17 and 24 October 2020 11am-12.30pm

Retreats allow us to give priority, time and energy to our spiritual practice. It gives us a break from busyness and to do lists, from sensual pleasures and our screens. With Covid-19 restrictions in place, many retreat centres are limited or closed. Accordingly, in this unique course, participants are invited to create their own self retreat at home. In the first session, Tina will explore with participants ways in which they can create their own retreat at home. Tina will also explore the usual impediments that come up on self retreats and ways to deal with these hindrances. Tina will be on self retreat on 17 and 18 October, and participants are invited to join in their own homes. In the second session, we will explore how participants went on their self retreat and discuss how they can build on their retreat experience to form a daily practice. The session is very informal and audience participation is welcomed.

Sometimes our meditation is very restless and we might not even be able to find a reason for it. There is just an underlying feeling of Edginess. This is stress that we are currently carrying. In this two part series, we will explore some remedies to this edginess and stress. There will be a short meditation, talk and group discussion so that we can all learn from each others’ experience. This course will discuss how to deal with Edginess that strikes during meditation and also during our working day.

eVesak 2020: Coming Together in Kindness for the B eVesak 2020: Coming Together in Kindness for the Buddha’s Birthday
The birth of the Buddha, commemorated at Vesak, has inspired followers through the ages as Buddhism travelled to different cultures. Each Buddhist community has a rich, ancient cultural tradition around Vesak, usually a local event. This year will mark a new kind of celebration—Coming Together in Kindness online.
In a time when we cannot gather together at one location, our hope is to create togetherness online by sharing our traditions through recordings and live engagement.
Join us as we make history, Coming Together in Kindness for eVesak 2020, on Mother’s Day to signify the birth of hope and light in the world.
Sunday 10 May 2020 from 4 PM (AEST). Please find more details on this link:
