Buddhist Education Teaching Workshop

February 11, 2017 - February 12, 2017

The Buddhist Council of NSW is recognised by the Department of Education and Training for the appointment of volunteer Buddhist teachers in government schools to teach scripture, or Special Religious Education, (SRE) to over 3,000 children per week.

Currently there are over 70 schools on the waiting list for a volunteer Buddhist SRE teacher.

How you can help
If you are a committed Buddhist who has time during school hours please let the BCNSW know of your interest. Classes are usually 30 minutes long.

Teachers who are now participating find it exciting and fulfilling; and the benefits for the children are profound.

All that you need is your experience as a Buddhist and a strong wish to help children. Training, mentoring, resources and on-going support are provided by the SRE support team.

The Buddhist Scripture (SRE) Program
The approach to teaching young people is based on the theme Values and Life Skills. This means that there is less emphasis on memorising what’s in a book and more on teaching the basic values exemplified by the Buddha’s life.
