Kōan Meditation

Teacher: Venerable Ki-Hoo

Sat 21 October | 9am – 4pm

Location: Bopbosa Temple (3 Oakura Ave, Woodford) and online

Cost: Free

A Kōan is a challenge to the intellect. The use of a koan is to take the practitioner out of the thinking mind. The Kōan allows students to observe or concentrate on a single word or phrase. Kōan training requires a qualified teacher who has the ability to judge a disciple’s depth of attainment.

We are fortunate to be able to learn about Korean Buddhism and Kōan Meditation from Venerable Ki-Hoo, a senior Buddhist Meditation monk, living in the lower Blue Mountains. Venerable Ki-Hoo will teach in Korean and we will have an interpreter at the event.

Join us in this special event to learn and practice Kōan Meditation with a special teacher. Spaces are limited so please ensure you book early!

About the Teacher: Venerable Ki-Hoo (or Ki-Hoo Sunim) is the founder and abbot of Jongbopsa, the Korean Buddhist Temple in Belfield. After many years of teaching and Dharma service, he has since retired into the mountains, offering the occasional teaching to those who wish to learn about meditation. Venerable Ki-Hoo has graciously accepted Metta Centre’s invitation to teach in this one day event.
